The Challenge:
Rebuilding a Workplace After Disaster
When a severe storm tore the roof off Momentive’s Building 2000, the resulting flood rendered the entire facility unusable. Employees were displaced and the company faced the massive task of rebuilding from the ground up. The new space needed to do more than replace what was lost, it had to restore functionality, boost morale, and create a workplace employees would be proud to return to after years away.
The Solution:
Fast, Flexible Construction Meets Thoughtful Design
Franklin partnered with Pickering Associates, Cooper Leaf Interior Design, and BBL Construction to rebuild Building 2000 into a modern, high-performing workplace. With an accelerated schedule driving the project, Steelcase Walls were introduced for their speed, precision, and flexibility.
To ensure a smooth installation, Franklin’s Justin Orison and BBL’s team completed specialized Steelcase training in Grand Rapids. Early involvement allowed Franklin to help program key areas with Steelcase and the architect — including the now-signature WorkCafé, which wasn’t part of the original plans.
The finished environment blends efficiency and comfort, featuring spaces for collaboration, training, and focused work. Furniture from Steelcase Coalesse, Orangebox, AMQ, HON, 3form, Johnston Casuals, and Ghent delivers both modern design and functional performance.
