The Challenge:
Reimagining a Dark, Closed-Off Office into an Open, Inviting Workplace
A Pittsburgh-based manufacturing company’s existing office environment was no longer supporting the way teams wanted to work. Private offices lined the exterior walls, blocking natural light from reaching the interior of the space. Tall 66" cubicles created a dense “sea of workstations,” making the office feel dark, crowded, and visually disconnected.
With limited meeting rooms and no open collaboration areas, the workplace lacked flexibility and opportunities for team interaction. Leadership recognized that without a significant change, the space would continue to feel closed off and would not support collaboration, visibility, or a modern work culture.

The Solution:
A Fully Integrated Renovation Designed for Light, Flexibility, and Connection

Key elements of the solution included:
- Open Workstations – Lower-height cubicles with reduced footprints allowed daylight to penetrate the space while improving sightlines and visual connection across teams.
- Meeting Rooms & Training Spaces – Purpose-built environments designed for collaboration, presentations, and group learning.
- Open Collaboration Areas – Informal spaces that encourage spontaneous conversation and teamwork throughout the day.
- Work Café, Reception, and Lobby – Welcoming shared spaces that support both social interaction and everyday work needs.
- Falkbuilt Interior Construction & Flooring – Integrated wall systems and flooring solutions that defined spaces while maintaining flexibility for future change.
Franklin supported the process with design workshops, showroom visits, MiniCon tours, and product explorations, including a pivotal trip to Steelcase that helped the client envision what was possible early in the process.
To build alignment and streamline approvals, Franklin produced a realistic 3D rendering flythrough showcasing furniture layouts, Falkbuilt walls, and flooring selections—giving stakeholders a clear view of the future space before installation began.

The Impact:
An Open, Light-Filled Environment That Reflects How Teams Work Today
The renovated workplace now feels open, inviting, and purposefully designed for collaboration. Natural light reaches deep into the floorplate, collaboration spaces are integrated throughout the office, and employees benefit from a balanced mix of focused and shared environments.
The response has been overwhelmingly positive—teams love the look and feel of the space and how it supports connection and flexibility. By rethinking layout, lowering visual barriers, and integrating furniture, flooring, and interior construction, Franklin helped create a workplace that feels modern, energized, and ready to evolve.
