Reimagining a Workspace
for Innovation

A flexible environment for testing
new products and layouts in real time.
Scope: Furniture & Interior Construction
Completed: 2025
Location: Pittsburgh, PA

The Challenge:

Refreshing a Space Built for Experimentation

This corporate headquarters set out to update a key floor used to test new workplace layouts, products, and applications before implementing them across their real estate portfolio. The existing space served its purpose, but the team wanted a fresh environment that could better support hands-on exploration, reflect modern workplace trends, and remain adaptable for future testing needs.

The Solution:

Immersive Research, Tailored Design, and Flexible Construction

To inspire the design process, Franklin curated showroom visits to Steelcase locations in New York, Chicago, and The Mart, as well as partner showrooms featuring the latest in ancillary furniture. These experiences gave the client team a firsthand look at new settings, emerging trends, and innovative applications — helping shape a design vision rooted in flexibility, function, and forward-thinking aesthetics.

Working collaboratively, Franklin’s team recommended furniture solutions that aligned with the client’s goals and budget. The curated mix combined performance and design range — supporting everything from focused product testing to collaborative brainstorming.

To enhance flexibility and streamline construction, the plan also integrated Falkbuilt wall systems. These prefab walls not only elevated the overall look and feel, but made it easy to reconfigure the space as testing needs evolve.

The Impact:

A Space Designed to Evolve

The result is a dynamic, high-performing environment that supports the client’s culture of experimentation and innovation. With flexible construction and a versatile furniture palette, the updated floor is ready to support new ideas, new workflows, and what’s next for the future of work.
