Leveling Up Campus Spaces: Inside MSU’s Esports Lounge

At Michigan State University, gaming is more than just play—it’s community, career-building, and competition. The Esports Competition Hub in Hubbard Hall is a game-changer, giving students a space to connect, create, and grow.

More Than Just Gaming

For Christopher Bilski, MSU’s Director of Esports, the mission was clear: build a home for students.

  • Varsity Esports Teams & 2,000+ Club Members—A central hub for MSU’s competitive gaming community
  • Hands-On Career Experience—Students explore broadcast media, marketing, and production
  • A Place to Belong—“You can come here and instantly find a family,” says Bilski

Designed for Connection & Competition

MSU partnered with Steelcase Learning to transform an empty classroom into a multifunctional esports hub.

  • Ergonomic seating, spacious desks, & adjustable monitors—for long hours of gaming
  • Lounge areas, high-top tables, & couches—for studying, relaxing, and socializing
  • Sound-dampened competition booth & review room—for focused gameplay & team strategy

“I didn’t want just rows of computers or a dark room with lasers,” says Bilski. “I wanted a balanced, comfortable space where students want to be.”

Let’s Design Your Next Hub
